Jonathan Bennett, who became everyone’s favorite crush thanks to his break-out role in ‘Mean Girls,’ feared losing his legions of female fans when he came out.
Jonathan Bennett is proudly living his truth these days. He’s engaged to Jaymes Vaughan and the couple have teamed up with KAY Jewelers to design ‘Our Ring by Jaymes & Jonathan’, one of the first same-sex engagement / wedding ring offerings by a major retailer. But, for many years Jonathan lived in fear of coming out — and what it might do to his career as a Hollywood heartthrob.
“I was afraid that I would lose it all,” Jonathan, 39, told HollywoodLife EXCLUSIVELY while discussing his decision to come out in 2017. “I mean, for decades everyone tells you you’re going to lose all your teenage girl fans [if you come out] they’re all gonna hate you. And if you lose them, then no one will watch your movies, so no one will cast you. And that is the harsh truth of what you hear.”
Fortunately, that wasn’t the case for Jonathan. “To be honest quite the opposite happened,” he shared. “The girls that I have that are fans from Mean Girls just fell even more in love with me as a person, because they saw the real me. And when you see the real person, meaning their true authentic self, it’s hard not to love them.”
Not only did Jonathan’s fans become more loyal, sharing his truth actually led to more work, not less. “I got cast in the first gay storyline on Hallmark Channel, and started paving the way, and opening the doors for so many more people in those types of movies. You think you’re never going to work again, and actually they’re like, ‘oh, you are going to work, and you’re going to work more.’”
And, it’s not just Hollywood that Jonathan wants to make more inclusive. He and his fiancé Jaymes are determined to change the wedding industry for their LGBTQ+ community too.
“With the ring we’ve designed and being on the cover of The Knot we are trying to take away the ‘otherness’ of the LGBTQ+ community, and not only Christmas movies and Hallmark movies, but in wedding magazines and jewelers and engagement rings. We’re going after the major players, and taking away the ‘otherness’ of it.”
When Jaymes proposed to Jonathan last December he struggled to find the perfect ring — so he reached out to KAY Jewelers to create a custom design, with the hopes of eventually being able to offer it to everyone in the LGBTQ+ community. “That’s been my plan all along,” the 37-year-old T.V. host explained to HollywoodLife. “That’s why I first reached out to KAY when I was trying to find a ring to propose to Jonathan and I couldn’t find anything.”
“I knew, thanks to social media, that KAY is so incredibly inclusive and celebratory of our community, because I’ve seen them posting for years about stuff. And I decided that’s who I want to partner with in creating something that would exist beyond just for Jonathan and I, but that would exist for our community. And from the jump, I feel like I’ve had their support,” he raved.
The beautiful engagement and wedding band that Jaymes designed for his love Jonathan is the inspiration behind their collaboration with KAY. The brushed 14K white gold band has 1/2 carat of round cut diamonds adorning the profile on one side of the ring.
“This ring is your engagement ring and the diamonds face out. And then it flips at your wedding ceremony and then the wedding band faces out and the diamonds face you,” Jonathan explained. “As we’re planning our own path to our wedding we just wanted to do what we can to open doors up in the industry. Our whole goal in this is to change the industry and make it more inclusive.”
Now that Jonathan and Jaymes are engaged, they say Pride Month hits a little different. “It means that I live my life with my fiancé, as loudly and proudly as I can, to give hope and a representation of love for a younger versions of me,” said Jonathan.
Jaymes echoed the sentiment. “As you get older you realize more and more how important pride is because it’s about that visibility,” he shared. “It’s about giving hope to those who aren’t out yet, those who haven’t found themselves yet, those who are maybe out, but don’t have the hope.”
“It really is about hope, about going out there and living your life as loudly proudly, and doing it with pride. Pride is a celebration right, so to celebrate who we are and that is so important,” he added.
As HollywoodLife previously reported, in addition to planning their wedding the busy couple is also running their LGBTQ+ travel company, OUTbound Travel.
“Our Ring by Jaymes & Jonathan” is available now, exclusively on KAY.com.
Emma Watson Meets Al Gore To Discuss Climate Change In Crop Top Made Of Recycled Fabrics
Emma Watson looked absolutely gorgeous wearing a tiny crop top made from recycled materials when she met with Al Gore to discuss climate change.
Emma Watson, 31, is not only super stylish, but she’s also eco-conscious and she proved that when she met with Al Gore to discuss climate change. For the occasion, Emma rocked a head-to-toe green floral Emilia Wickstead outfit that was made out of recycled yarn.
Emma’s top was a cropped cape that just covered her shoulders and ended at her chest, revealing her black bra underneath. She styled the shirt with a matching high-waisted midi skirt that put her toned abs and tiny waist on full display.
Emma posted about her outfit and thanked the designer, writing, “Thank you to the loveliest Emilia for making me this beautiful custom piece. It was handmade in London using leftover fabrics consisting of 62% recycled yarn that was locally sourced, woven, and printed in Italy. I will be wearing this a lot!!”
In another photo posted to Emma’s Instagram, she posed with Al as she smiled ear-to-ear. She captioned the picture, “‘Mother Nature is telling us what the truth is about this crisis. I mean, it’s crazy what’s going on. Every night on the TV news is like a nature hike through the Book of Revelation.’ — @algore.”
Emma has been on a roll lately with her upcycled outfits and just the other day she attended the Earthshot Prize ceremony in London on October 17, wearing a stunning white blouse with black trousers.
Emma’s white blouse featured tulle ruffle layers and was made from 10 recycled wedding dresses from Oxfam. The front of the shirt had a lace neckline with cut-out embroidery while the side had an asymmetrical hemline. Meanwhile, the entire back of the dress was cut out, revealing her bare skin.
‘Gossip Girl’ Fans Can’t Get Over How Penn Badgley’s ‘You’ Co-Star Looks Just Like Hilary Duff
Apparently Penn Badgley has a type! Twitter thinks his former ‘Gossip Girl’ lover, Hilary Duff, looks awfully similar to his ‘You’ wife, Victoria Pedretti.
Leave it to Twitter to come up with some wild Hollywood comparisons. In the week since You season 3 dropped on Netflix, fans have been tweeting that star Victoria Pedretti, 26, looks very similar to Hilary Duff, 34. And what makes this comparison even more noteworthy is that the two actresses have both been romantically involved on the small screen with none other than Penn Badgley, a.k.a Joe Goldberg in You, a.ka. Dan Humphrey in Gossip Girl. But let’s dive into these connections a little bit more, shall we?
So as any Gossip Girl fan knows, Penn, 34, rose to fame thanks to his performance in the hit teen drama. During season 3, he became romantically entangled with NYU beauty Olivia Burke, who is played by Hilary. The two had a brief, but memorable romance, which involved a threesome with Vanessa Abrams (Jessica Zhor). Hilary only played Olivia for six episodes before her storyline with Penn ended.
Now all these years later, Penn is back on the small screen as a psycho stalker-killer in Netflix’s hit You. Victoria was introduced in season 2 as Joe’s love interest, Love Quinn. The two develop a close bond (they’re both killers, after all!) and they get married and have a son once season 3 starts. Fans are now unapologetically comparing Victoria to Hilary in plenty of tweets, which is just hilarious considering their TV connection to Penn. Apparently this guy has a type when he’s at work!
You’re telling me Victoria Pedretti and Hilary Duff aren’t the same person?

On the screen, Penn clearly has a type. But his lover in real life is much different than either Victoria or Hilary, though not in a bad way! Penn married singer Domino Kirke, 37, in a super secret ceremony at a courthouse in Brooklyn, NY on February 27, 2017. When they tied the knot, Penn became a stepdad to Domino’s son Cassius, 12, whom she shares with ex Morgan O’Kane.
Penn and Domino later expanded their family when they welcomed their first child together, son James Badgley, in Aug. 2020. Penn has absolutely adored fatherhood, and he spends lots of time with his son. Except for when he’s killing as Joe Goldberg, of course.
Angelina Jolie In ‘Super Isolation’ After COVID-19 Exposure At ‘Eternals’ Premiere She Attended With Kids
Angelina Jolie brought along five of her six children to the Marvel event in Los Angeles, where she, along with several co-stars, were reportedly exposed to COVID.
Angelina Jolie, 46, was one of several people to reportedly be exposed to COVID-19 at Marvel’s Eternals premiere in Los Angeles on Oct. 18, according to Variety. The actress attended the star-studded event with five out of her six children — but now she is in “super isolation” along with co-stars Salma Hayek, Gemma Chan and Lauren Ridloff, as well as director Chloe Zhao. All five women had to miss the Elle’s “Women in Hollywood” event on Tuesday, where editor-in-chief Nina Garcia reportedly told the audience the the group was “just exposed, so to keep everyone safe those superheroes are now in super isolation.”
Disney also confirmed the possible exposures to Variety. A spokesperson said that while the premiere attendees have tested negative for COVID-19, the entire Eternals cast — which also includes Kit Harington, Richard Madden, Kumail Nanjiani and more — will be “pivoting to virtual appearances rather than in-person events” to promote the new action film, which arrives in theaters on November 5.
It remains unclear how the cast members were exposed to COVID-19. It’s also unknown if guests at the event, including Angelina’s kids, are in isolation as well. The Maleficent star had brought along Maddox, 20, Zahara, 16, Shiloh, 15, Vivienne, 13, and Knox, 13, to the big event. Only Pax, 17, did not attend the outing with his famous mother, who shares all six of the kids with ex Brad Pitt.
At the Eternals premiere, Angelina rocked a stunning, strapless brown draped Balmain Resort 2022 gown. She also wore a gold chin cuff that was fastened between the inside of her bottom lip and all the way around the bottom of her chin. She posed for many photos on the carpet with the five kids, as well as with her fellow castmates.
Angelina stars in the Marvel movie as Thena, a fierce warrior Eternal who can form any weapon out of cosmic energy. While the film isn’t out yet, reports have said that Harry Styles (!) appears as Eros — though this has yet to be confirmed by the heads of Marvel/Disney.
